ANNUAL REPORT 2011/2012
Operations Review
The hotel’s revenue rose by 7.6%- contributed
mainly by increases in room as well as F&B
earnings. Occupancy rate rose to 84.9%,
refecting a 0.8% increase. Demand from the
leisure segment was very strong, especially
from China, Hong Kong, New Zealand and
Canada.
As a testimony to its outstanding service and
accommodation, Sir Stamford at Circular
Quay won the 2012 Tripadvisor Traveller’s
Choice Award for “The Best Hotels in
Australia, Luxury” category. This award,
based on millions of valuable reviews and
opinions from travellers around the world
who voted online, reinforces Sir Stamford at
Circular Quay’s global reputation.
Indeed, elegance is the hallmark of Sir
Stamford at Circular Quay that houses unique
antique and fne art collections that further
enhance its sophisticated ambience.
We expect Sir Stamford at Circular Quay to
continue to perform well in FY2012/13, given
its strong management, strong appeal and a
stable business environment.
Stamford Plaza Brisbane’s
gross operating
proft fell by 2.7% from the previous FY. The
fve-star hotel reopened its doors on April 1,
2011, and concerted efforts were focused on
gradually winning back corporate business
lost during the three-month closure caused
by the devastating food in January.
Both corporate and leisure traveller demand
was soft for the frst two quarters of the
fnancial year under review. Occupancy
rate was 82.8%, an increase of 8% over the
previous FY. Corporate accounts gradually
returned to the hotel, with the fnal two
quarters of the year stronger than the frst half
of the year. In light of the higher occupancy,
Stamford Plaza Brisbane experienced a 5.1%
revpar increase.
The hotel regained all the major corporate
accounts suspended as a result of its closure
due to the Brisbane food. It clinched the
Award for Best Marketed Hotel in the 2011
Queensland Hotels Association (QHA)
Awards for the reopening marketing and
communications campaign. As a state
winner, the submission was entered into the
Australian HotelsAssociation’s (AHA) Awards
to be held in August this year.
The hotel’s outlook for FY 2012/13 is very
positive as Brisbane bounces back on the
resurgence of the resources boom and there
will be no new supply of hotel rooms.
To maximise the property’s waterfront
potential, a development application has
been lodged with the Brisbane City Council
for an A$16 million-extension. Plans include
a 1,100-square meter restaurant and bar to
maximize the hotel’s beautiful garden and
river views. We also seek to add conferencing
space to accommodate 1,000 guests. Plans
also include a new hotel entrance that
captures the scenic river view.
